Happy New Year Everyone!
I wanted to post some of the images that are up on my studio wall right now as we finish up the samples for the Fall 10 collection. I've been fascinated lately with pre-historic Egypt. I know that this is a source of endless inspiration for many designers....and for good reason....I also love how the different eras have interpreted this decade for example-- the '20's version of "Egyptian" and more recently the '80's version of "Egyptian." If you want to have some fun with this, I highly recommend putting two films on your Netflix list:
the first is "Cleopatra" from 1934 starring Claudette Colbert and the second is "Cleopatra" from 1963 starring Elizabeth Taylor....these movies are just a feast for the eyes in terms of costuming and jewelry and make up!
I've also been reading many books recently on the history of the Sphinx....originally claimed by Egyptologists to have been constructed around 2500BC, new evidence suggests that the Sphinx may actually be much older than that by say 10,000 years or so! You'll just have to read the book to find out :)
The color blue has been coming up a lot too...I think it represents optimism for me as does the tiny Spatula hummingbird of Peru: the epitome of hope and everything beautiful. You will see this color a lot in the fall and I have had so much fun dyeing silks to capture this vibrant shade!
I can't wait to see all of these ideas come to life in our upcoming Fall Collection!
